Feather Quill Pens

The Definition of Haute Couture: for "high sewing" or "high dressmaking"; refers to the creation of exclusive custom-fitted clothing. These items are usually made from high-quality, expensive fabric and sewn with extreme attention to detail and finish, often using time-consuming, hand-executed techniques. The term can also refer to the fashion houses or fashion designers that create exclusive and often trend-setting fashions.

Here, at Studio on the Pond my pens are created in much the same way as these high end fashions, which is why the term ’Couture’ has often been attached to them. Created with a ’Designers Eye’ for detail, in a rainbow of colours, and using beautiful accents and adornments, both antique, vintage & new.

The color pallet for my wedding pens is wide open, often influenced by current fashion trends, and are thusly created in colours other than the basic white & off-white. They can be crafted as ballpoints, rollerball pens, or traditional quill pens. We strongly prefer the elegance and whimsical beauty attached to the use of a real feather quill writing pen over that of a ballpoint.

These pens are beautiful when deep-set framed as special keepsakes along with other wedding memorabilia after the special day is complete. :) 

TIME FRAME:

This depends on the pen, as well as any customization created for it. Generally, for the simpler 'shop listed' quills the time frame is 2 to 5 weeks, and of course longer for the custom designs. I will work customs quicker, however that also depends upon my waiting list. Just let me know what you require when considering.

Handcrafted in the USA ... I do not use feathers imported from China in the creation of my feather quill pens. My feathers come from suppliers & farms here in the United States, and are from heritage breeds & birds who have naturally molted their quills, or from my own small flock of very loved feathered friends. With that being said, the colorful quills I have listed are either hand painted rainbow quills that I created myself, or are some of the 100+ year old antique millinery feather stock I purchased in the early 2000's. I believe I am the only studio with this stock of beautiful antique millinery feather quills in the United States, as their purchase was a gift from my late husband. He bought the entire warehouse of primary & secondary quills. 

Because the quill comes from nature (Naturally Molted), there will be variations in feathering. I will do my best to match that which is shown in the photograph, but this does need to be considered when purchasing pre-made feather pens. Feathers are like fingerprints, and one of a kind. :) 

Also, Enchanted Quills is in compliance with the United States Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918, The Bald Eagle Act of 1940, and the Endangered Species Act of 1973. The Plain Feather Quill Pens listed in my shop are handcrafted from Naturally Molted Turkey Feathers & created to resemble those of Wild Owls, Eagles & Hawks.
